Document Arlington Project

youth video production

Too often, youth are characterized as disengaged from their local community.  Students do not have sufficient opportunity to learn from the creative capital in their own environment or adequate avenues to relate their perspectives to those around them. The Document Arlington Project (DAP) addresses these issues through the creation of teen produced documentaries about the Arlington community and public exhibition of student work.

A partnership between Arlington Independent Media and the Humanities Project of the Arlington Public Schools, DAP is a six-week, paid, television production apprenticeship program open to all Arlington County high school students. Each year, six DAP interns work together, over the summer, to learn documentary making and create two short documentaries about the Arlington community. Arlington Independent Media provides all technical and production training, access to professional equipment and production development assistance, as well as television and theatrical public screenings of the resulting documentaries.
