2008 Rosebud Film & Video Festival

May 10, 2008 - The Eighteenth annual Rosebud Film and Video Festival Nominee Showcase will be held on Saturday June 14, 2008 at the Rosslyn Spectrum Theater, 1611 N. Kent Street, Arlington, VA. The entire twenty film (6 ½ hour) slate of nominees will be screened beginning at 12:30 PM. An all day pass for the festival is only $8.00 and includes re-entry privileges throughout the showcase. Rosebud is an annual competition open exclusively to DC, Maryland, and Virginia film and video producers. The Rosebud Festival seeks to honor the innovative, experimental, unusual, and deeply personal in creative film and video making.

The twenty works in this year’s showcase are as diverse and rich as our region itself. The line-up includes remarkably intimate documentaries such as Michelle Ann Ferrell’s Unraveling Michellle, which chronicles the journey of filmmaker Joe O’Ferrell as he makes the transition into the woman; touching dramas such as, Signage, by Rick Hammerly, a story that examines the insecurities inherent in becoming older in today’s youth and beauty obsessed culture; and innovative works like, My Best Friend Mark, by Renee Shaw, a personal narrative about love and loss. A complete list of this year’s nominees is available at www.rosebudfestival.org.

An independent panel of judges selected the 20 nominees from which five winners including one Best of Show will be chosen. Festival winners will be announced at the gala Rosebud Award ceremony, on June 15, 2008 at the beautiful Clarendon Ballroom, in Arlington, Virginia. The five winners will each receive the 2008 Rosebud award, and a $1,000.00 cash prize. In addition to the cash prize, the Best in Show winner will receive $500.00 of video products and services provided by Arlington Independent Media. Tickets to the Awards Ceremony are free and will be available at the Nominee Showcase or by calling Arlington Independent Media at (703) 524-2388.

The ROSEBUD Film & Video Festival was founded in 1990 to promote the rich and diverse independent film and video community in Washington, Maryland and Virginia. The Festival is a project of Arlington Independent Media (AIM).  For more information about the Rosebud Festival contact Jackie Steven at 703-524-2388.

Coalition Blasts FCC for Unlawful, Arbitrary and Capricious Ruling on Video Franchising

July 18, 2007 – In a Brief filed today, a coalition of local government and non-profit groups asks the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit to overturn the video franchising Order issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in March 2007.
