Voice Box - Are women's rights in the US still an issue?
In 2010, are “women’s rights” in the United States of America still an issue?
On February 21, 2010, the Washington Post ran an article titled “For women in America, equality is still an illusion” by Jessica Valenti. The premise being that as women in the United States challenge inequities against women in foreign lands, they should not abandon the battle for equality here at home. On the other hand, an online poll at Economist.com asked readers to vote yes or no on the following statement: “This house believes that women in the developed world have never had it so good.” Sixty-four percent of respondents answered Yes, which sparked several intense on-line debates and articles about the current state of women’s rights in the US.
The month of March is Women’s History Month, with March 8th designated as International Women’s Day. Across the world events will be held to honor women’s achievements, sacrifices, and continued struggles.
On March 18th, the live production of Voice Box will ask panelists and audience members to thoughtfully answer the question, “In 2010, are “women’s rights” in the United States of America still an issue?”
