Special Screening and Director's Talk

Yasmine  Bandali

Friday, May 21st from 7:00 to 9:30pm AIM will host a special screening of Ta Kimbia (I will run) by AIM member Yasmine Bandali. This event is open to FAIM members plus one guest each, if you are not a FAIM member and would like to become one($15 upgrade including free t-shirt), contact Hilary Egan at 703-524-2388 to upgrade your membership. Yasmine Bandali is an AIM trained videographer. She grew up in Kenya where she observed hardships and poverty. Her movie, Ta Kimbia (I will run) is inspired by the tenacity of Kenyan runners who come from rural and agricultural backgrounds, and succeed despite the odds. Her award winning script was produced in Kenya in 2009 and stars Olympic gold medalist Kip Keino. The movie premiered at the DC Independent Film Festival in March 2010.
 
Kamau, a Kenyan teenager, longs to run. But he must give up his hopes to support his family; when he struggles against poverty, corruption and family pressure he finally achieves his dream, at a heavy price.
